The MISSISSIPPIAN CULTURE spread from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.
Early traditions were typified by earthen structures such as "Serpent Mound" E. Cincinnati, Ohio, "Monk's Mound" E. St. Louis, Ill, "Moundville" Alabama. The major center was Cahokia in the Ohio Valley, 750A.D to 1300A.D. with maximum population of 20,000.
