Appendix L: Calculation of Current Economic Costs of Landscape

Water Costs:

Per CCF (century cubic feet) water costs based on HMC monthly record of water bills. Water costs for the 1999/2000 year were used and averaged $1.76 per CCF water. This price included a monthly water tax of approximately 4%. Furthermore, the cost per CCF varied throughout the year, but stayed above $1.60 and below $1.80. This price was then applied to the total water use calculated in the Environmental section of the report.

Other Costs:

All other costs were reported by Mike Barber, Head Groundskeeper at HMC. The costs reported were for the same year as the water costs used, 1999-2000. These costs included yearly payments for chemicals, machinery upkeep and fuel, new plant purchases, irrigation system maintenance and replacement parts, and a few labor costs that were likely to change with a new landscape, including lawn maintenance.
