Question 2: Please rate the amount of the following in the current Harvey Mudd College Landscape:

Question 3: Please list as many ways you think HMC's outdoor spaces could be improved to encourage use.
Responses to this question concentrated in eight major areas: increased places to sit, increased meeting/secluded areas, increased shaded areas, reduced grass dampness, increased color and aesthetics, increased trees, increased native plant use, and improved concrete maintenance. We then tabulated how many responses named each of these major areas.

4. Please indicate how much you agree or disagree with the following statements.
I like the HMC landscape the way it is, and I wouldn't like it changed.
Landscape is important in the overall impression of a college.
HMC's landscape should use technological innovation and resource conservation.
Institutional landscapes should reflect their local natural environment.
Promoting biodiversity is important to me.
Having the HMC landscape simple and linear is consistent with its function.
The HMC landscape has places where I can sit and be refreshed.
Southern Californians should be more concerned about water conservation.
I am concerned about pesticides and think HMC should minimize their use.

9. Does the current HMC landscape fit the college well in your opinion? How would you describe the way the landscape fits Harvey Mudd College?
Question 9 had two parts, the first asked if the respondent believed that Harvey Mudd's landscape fit the college, and the second asked why. We first categorized the responses as to whether the respondent felt that the landscape fit the college, "Yes" or "No", and then we compiled the answers into subcategories. We also noted whether the responses were positive or negative in nature regardless of fit to the college. For instance, some replies included statements such as: "Yeah, but I don't like it. It's way too useful and has entirely too much grass." Such a response was tabulated as the landscape fit the college, but it was a negative response. We also noted the number of respondents who told us that they felt that a resource-conserving landscape would do the job just as well as the current landscape.

19 of the "Yes" respondents said there was too much resource use.
