Appendix J: Final Draft of Survey

After concretizing the survey format, we came up with the survey shown below (referenced in Section 6.3.2 Survey Creation).

The following paragraphs are some notes on a few of the questions. The color pictures used in Question 6 and referenced in Question 7 came from these places:

The watering numbers given in Question 8 were determined by the environmental group to be the watering limits on the two types of landscapes. In Question 10, as we were canvassing six different cohorts, they were asked different questions as applied to them individually:

Students: How much of an impact would a native, water-efficient landscape at Harvey Mudd College have had on your decision to come to Harvey Mudd College?
Parents: How much of an impact would a native, water-efficient landscape at Harvey Mudd College have had on your approval/disapproval of Harvey Mudd College?
Trustees, Alumni: How much of an impact would the change to a native, water-efficient landscape at Harvey Mudd College have on your donating money to the college?
Faculty, Staff: How much of an impact would a native, water-efficient landscape at Harvey Mudd College have had on your decision to come to work at Harvey Mudd College?

The survey in its final format is included below.

HARVEY MUDD COLLEGE - REGIONAL LANDSCAPE CLINIC - 2000-2001

The Regional Landscape Clinic, through the Harvey Mudd College Environmental Studies Program is interested in understanding how people perceive landscapes, and particularly how Harvey Mudd College's landscape is perceived by its community members. Our goal is to gauge how the college and its community will react to any proposed changes to the current landscape. Since our recommendations affect you directly, we want to understand what you value and what you think about the landscape at HMC.

Please note that when we ask about the landscape (plantings, walkways, things on the ground) we are not asking about the architecture (buildings).

If you have any questions, please contact Chris Hanusa at (909) 607-3595 or by e-mail at chanusa@hmc.edu.

**If you have comments about a particular response, there is blank space after each question for your remarks.**
