11. Acknowledgments

We would like to thank our advisors, Professors Nancy Hamlett and Tad Beckman for their spirited comments on our reports, as well as their enthusiasm for the project. We would like to thank Professor Michael Raugh, HMC Mathematics Clinic Director, for his organization of the project, along with his constant attention. We would like to thank Dr. Karen Yoshino, survey analyst Andrea Wulf, as well as Professor of Psychology Margaret Kasimatis for their help on the survey creation and analysis. Other Harvey Mudd College community members who have been key resources are Profs. Michael Black, Lisa Sullivan, Bill Daub, Hal Van Ryswyk, Pat Little, Jon Strauss, Mike Barber, Mary Neu, and Tony LaFetra.

We are also grateful to Professor Robert Perry of Cal Poly Pomona for discussing landscape sustainability with us, and Professor Daniel Guthrie of the Joint Sciences Program of the Claremont Colleges for providing information on species diversity. We would also like to thank Bart O'Brien and the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden for helping with our experimental plot and Dave Schroeder of the Chino Basin Water Conservation District. Tim Worley of Three Valleys Municipal water District and Marcos Quezada of the Municipal Water District (MWD) were also important resources.

Thanks also goes to Jim Sherman, who shared his work done as an environmental landscape consultant for HMC with us, and Nord Eriksson, a principal at EPT Landscape Architects, who shared his firm's knowledge of the College's landscape history with us. Thank you also to Dr. Charles Benbrook for providing a copy of his book Pest Management at the Crossroads and Dr. David Pimentel for his suggestions on analysis of pesticide use. We would also like to thank Mrs. Carmela Alexander for her helpful comments on our report drafts. We would like to thank Joe Checkelsky, Matt Ferlo, and Amanda Malone for their suggestions for survey material. Thanks to Richard and Mary Ann Kirkby for their help on issues of economic valuation.

In addition, we have had many people help out on our garden plot; a big thank you is due to Jamie Hadden, Tadashi Nagao, Les Fletcher, Pete Scheidler, Matt Macauley, Kurt Dresner, Tim Prescott, Grant Clifford, J.L. Espinoza, Chris Pries, Nick Taylor, and Eric Angell for their physical dexterity. In addition, the F&M grounds crew provided a great deal of help in finishing our plot: installing the irrigation system, spreading mulch and performing other tasks.

Lastly, a "thanks in advance" goes to Charles Anderson, of Anderson & Ray Design Studios with EDAW, who has graciously agreed to help us craft an interpretive sign for the demonstration garden, allowing future generations of students, faculty, and staff of HMC share in the accomplishment of this year's clinic team.
